My old ION TT-USB had a gain control - albeit in a very awkward place underneath the turntable at the back.

And me Edirol UA-1EX (now discontinued) has a gain control

I run 2.2.2 (and 2.3.0 alpha test vn,) on my Macbook Pro with High Sierra - now 10.13.6 - but I have had it on 10.13.4) and I do not see jerky scrolling on Playback.

How do you think this information could be added to the "help" page that pops up when you clic the question mark in the "error opening sound device ..." window ? I have already done this in the alpha Manual for the soon to be upcoming 2.3.0 version of Audacity. We cannot change ...

It is not considered good practice to store too much stuff on your desktop - and yes my understanding is that, yes overloading your desktop can affect your PC's performance.
