Re: Select Track button - proposal

With Shift+click Microsoft Windows Explorer mostly seems to pick above - but I don't spot an underlying consistency - but I'm sure thate must be one (it is programmed after all). Audacity currently seems to favour downwards (removing selection fro the upper tracks) And with a selection present Shift...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

1) I agree with your left click scenario

2) I agree with your Ctrl+click scenario (this is similar to the Windows Explorer paradign)

I need to think more about the Shift modifier stuff.

I seem to recall long discussions with Gale re the Ctrl & Shift modified behaviors ...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

And note that we can't do this for 2.3.0 as we are now semi-freddo in "string freeze".

Re: Select Track button - proposal

An interesting question - I was expecting it to work like Koz' mythical red square I.e. click on it, track gets selected, button goes down - release mouse button, Select button pops back up. We do already have buttons that pop back up after teh action is done - e'g. in the Transport Toolbar: Stop, S...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

As I said above it replaces the red square patch at the bottom of the TCP that Koz often draws (see below)as a target for users for selecting the whole track. I.e. at the bottom of the TCP alongside the "shrink/expand" LBT button - making the "shrink/expand" button narrower to ac...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

Which is why I still like the idea of a button simply labelled "Select" - clear, concise & "discoverable" Sure. So assuming that you don't want to occupy more screen space, which features would you leave out? For now - all of 'em bar the proposed "Select" button Wi...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

I quite like the idea of a real button, otherwise we are assuming that users "just know" that clicking an empty part of the panel will perform a specific "select" command. Which used to work a great deal better before the free real estate dried up. Select the track by clicking t...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

Yes, very spiffy = who's been a busy boy :-)

but I worry a little about the small size of the buttons - but I do note that Reaper makes use of similarly small buttons

This would be harder to get past the "powers that be" - even though you and I form part of that cadre ...

Re: Select Track button - proposal

I was hoping for a quick win with just this simple suggestion. Appreciated, but it needs to be decided exactly how big the button will be, and where it goes, which I don't think can be decided without considering the other elements of the panel, (at least to some degree). Well it seems to me from l...
