2.2.1 has a VERY serious bug that can cause loss of your project data.

If you insist on using 2.2.1 do NOT ever use "File > Save As..." to save your current project - only us File > Save or its shortcut Ctrl+S

You will be glad to know, jpr, that we have fixed this for 2.3.0 (I just QA tested it) It's also led us to tidy up the behaviors with regard to Rates - there were a few rough edges ... Revised fix for Bug 1977 - Using Spectrogram Settings in TCP causes Audacity to reset Project Rate to default 44100...

Were you trying to open the project by using drag&drop to drag the project's .aup file onto an open empty Audacity project? a) You can import audio files into an open project like that b) you can drag an audio file onto your Audacity app icon - and that will open Audacity and import the audio c)...

You need to use the File > Open command to open Audacity projects (not File>Import) as the error message tells you

I knew from reading somewhere that Ctrl-D did "duplication", but I wish it was listed somewhere as a function to invoke via a menu item.

How about Edit > Duplicate
