And having looked myself at that page in the Manual I'm thinking that that subsection could maybe do with an image to make it clearer. I'm guessing that you are recording on a new track (below an existing track) and not appending to the end of the existing track. If so, then it is likely that you have made a selection in the existing track(s) - the blue shading appears in the timeline when you do that - and yes, then it is quite in...

If you mean the "Ctrl + i" ("split") shortcut, it is in the "full" set of defaults. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/keyboard_preferences.html#defaults Or if you don't want/need the Full set of shortcuts you could just add Ctrl + i (or any other key/key combina...
