I cannot reproduce this on W10 with 2.3.1 or the latest alpha test build for the upcoming 2.3.2

1) The preview plays with the pitch change
2) the selection remains selected when the preview completes.

Audacity MIDI support is almost, but not quite, zero. I think the latest Audacity knows there is MIDI and recognizes it, but not much more. Actually latest Audacity(s) can happily play MIDI tracks - and limited editing of MIDI tracks (just cut&paste and dlete) is available - but that's all. WC

Would you be happy with this wording of a proposed enhancement: Change color of waveform when selected, not just the waveform background. This would improve the visibility of the selected region, especially when editing high amplitude, highly compressed audio and full scale test tones. +1 I would WC

I have tested this on my W10 laptop with Audacity 2.3.1 and I cannot reproduce what you report.

The Equalization is applied to precisely my selections.

And that's because re-installing does not reset the preferences.

To fix your toolbars just use View > Toolbars > Reset Toolbars
