Re: Distorted recordings from turntable-New problem
Do yourself a favour and download the latest Audacity version 2.3.2 (2.1.0 is ancient now - and many bugs have been fixed).
You can download 2.3.2 from here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/

Re: merging audio files
Have you got the latest version of Audacity which is 2.3.2 ? That us the first version in which we built in LAME. BTW LAME is only for MP3 export - for MP4/AAC yoy need the optional FFmpeg library. But a workaround for you would be to Export as AIFF or WACV and use iTunes to covert to MP3 or MP4. WC

Re: Running Extend Silence Effect On Hundreds Of Files
2.2.2 has Chains in the File Menu.
For 2.3.x Chains were replaced by Macros (and improved a lot).
I suggest you download the latest 2.3.2 version for Mac: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/

Re: recording level too high or low, There's no gradation.
I note that in the released 2.3.2 Manual it doesn't mention the fact that it stays on-screen, or the resixability - I will fix that for the next release. Done: https://alphamanual.audacityteam.org/man/Apply_Macro#Macros_Palette But note that this is the alpha Manual for the upcoming 2.3.3 release (...

Re: recording level too high or low, There's no gradation.
What exactly do you want to do? In Audacity 2.3.3 alpha on Linux, I can set hot keys to apply each macro, and I can set a shortcut to open the "Apply Macro Palette", and I can't set a keyboard shortcut to open the Macro Manager. OOH - so you can on Windows too. Nor can you set a shortcut ...

Re: recording level too high or low, There's no gradation.
That's silly. Then I'd have to apply a hot key to ever macro. A hot key for Apply Macro let's me quickly bring it up and choose one. If that's what you want to do use the Macros Palette Tools > Apply Macro > Palette This will leave the palette on screen all the time unless and until you dismiss it ...

Re: recording level too high or low, There's no gradation.
On a side issue, why can't I set a hot key to apply macro now? It's greyed out in the keyboard preferences. Yes I see that too - not sure why, but I'll ask the developer who worked on Macros. He said ... 'Apply Macro' probably should not be in there at all. (it selects a sub menu) Instead he/she wa...
