Re: 2nd track speed varies
I strongly doubt that de-installing Audacity and reinstalling would affect your problem one iota. Actually there is no Audacity de-install and if you just remove it, it will leave behind file(s) of your Preferences settings - so when you re-install your previous settings will reamain extant. Access ...

Re: Recording a study guide
The Time Shift tool is in the top left, it looks like two arrows pointing to the left and right with a line between them. You can use that to drag any individual track to the left or right in the timeline. Thanks for that little tip Andy, I never knew about that timeshift tool and have always faffe...

Re: click removal
Personally I have never had much joy with the click removal effect in Audacity - so what I have done is to remove them manually. Version 1.3 of Audacity is much better for this as the developers have added a new "Repair" effect - this will mend a broken portion of waveform, up to 128 samples, by int...

Re: Help please!
To make the recording louder you can use the Amplify effect. Select the whole project (Ctrl-A) or just the section you want to amplify -a nd grom the Effects menue selct Amplify - you will get the Amplify dialogue box - I would advise agfains selecting the "Allow Clipping" as you don't want clipping...

Re: Help please!
Basically yes, the overview workflow would be ... 1) Use the ION with Audacity to record an Audacity project of the tape 2) Edit the project with Audacity's effects - improving sound quality is a skilled task and often impossible if you have a poor recording to satrt with. You may want to try noise ...

Re: Preamp Causing Distortion
you mentioned in your first reply that the RIAA is applied on the master recording. And if I apply RIAA on the way out the sound will be noticably 'thin'. Actually no Marvin - when the engineers cut the master they do the opposite RIAA equalisation i.e. they effectively reduce the bassy/volumy bits...

Re: Help please!
Depends what format you created with the ION for Itunes - most likely it was a compressed format like MP3 - if that is the case then it will be better to start again - plug the ION to the PC and use Audacity to do the recording and any editing. If by any chance you created uncompressed files (e.g. W...

Re: To record/convert cassette to mp3 connections..
Try it - and if its's good enough for you then it's good enough. Better would be to use an external soundcard - Behringer UCA202 and Edirol UA-1EX get mentioned favourably on the forum a lot. The Behringer is cheaper - the Edirol has more functionality - personally, I use the Edirol with very good r...

Re: How delete parts of file and break up tracks?
John, yes indeed, that little fine vertical line is the cursor - it defines you current position in the Audacity project.JSharp wrote:In order to get to a track break, do you move the vertical fine line in the wavefrom display to the track break and then hit Ctrl-B?

Re: File splitting
Nikita, First import your MP3 file into Audacity to make it an Audacity Project. Then all you need to do is to place a label at each track break - use the Ctrl-B shortcut - and don't forget to place a label right at the beginning for the first track. Then use Audacity's Export Multiple command (avai...
