It's most likely to be a mono input - you really need a line-in - but I don't think laptops carry those.

Re: Restoring old audio recordings.

Your "shriek" removal will be very similar to click/pop removal. Personally I have never had much joy with the click removal effect in Audacity - so what I have done is to remove them manually. Version 1.3 of Audacity is much better for this as the developers have added a new "Repair" effect - this ...

Re: Making The Audio Sound Like Radio

Hey, you've obviously got the wrong radio - a decent FM tuner with good speakers coupled with a good strong FM signal - and then it doesn't sound like that at all ..... ;) Seriously though, there have been other posts about this on the form, I remember reading them a while back, try Search ing for t...

Re: Export Multiple stops after 4 tracks

Almost certainly you have labelled the fifth track with a label that contains a special character that is not allowed in windows filenames (like / etc) - simplify your labels to alphanumeric and try again. You can always edit the MP3 tags later - if you are exporting to MP3.

Re: No Dropdown menu on 1.2??

Yes you can use Audacity at gigs - but then you would need a laptop rather than a small MD recorder, and this is not as rugger (or unobtrusive). Better may be to consider one of the portable digital recorders that are now on the market. Personally I am never overly satisfied with live sound recorded...

Re: NEWBIE NEED ADVISE

It is likely that your old turntable may be higher quality than the USB decks that are available - most of them are a little lightweiht (and so you can get a bit of wow&flutter). You should not just connect your deck straight to your soundcard - unless the deck has its own in-built pre-amp. You woul...

Re: Editing CD tracks for burning to CD in iTunes

I would probably import them into Audacity - as that is where you plan to edit them - and then export them in the form that you need for subsequent use.

Re: No Dropdown menu on 1.2??

What you get in that dropdown is entirely dependent on the souncard and its driver software. Normally it only hets greyed out if you have a USB device *like an ION turntable or similar) plugged - as there is then only a single path, and hence no options. Microphone - sorry I can't comment on this, e...

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods

Try listening to the recorded noise floor on Electric Ladyland (vinyl) - where Jimi has the amp turned up to 12 not 11 .....
