Hmm, seems I'm a little behind the times. I haven't done much recording with Audacity lately.
I'd forgotten about the double-click trick. Thanks for the reminder.

Finally, two digits on sliders
Finally, Audacity has two digits after the decimal point for the record and playback level sliders. This was such a minor point, and the lack of two digits wasn't a big problem, but it was the only improvement that really wanted in Audacity. Thanks to whoever changed it. I love Audacity. I've conver...

Re: LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
Yes, I'm running Audacity 2.0.6. It was after downloading the latest version I decided to try some of the non-standard LAME binaries. From http://www.rarewares.org/files/mp3/lame3.99.5.zip Attempting to use this dll results in numerous errors in the log: 10:56:48 PM: Actual LAME path C:Program Files...

Re: LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
I got the binaries from RareWares.org. No other links (that I could see) pointed to 3.99.5 binaries.
Where did you get your binaries? Did you compile from source?

Re: LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
If you look in Help > Show Log... it may shed some light on it. Gale Thanks Gale. That was helpful. The log showed that Audacity tried to use the lame_enc.dll specified in Preferences -> Libraries, got an unknown error, then went back to the LAME as stored in the registry. I think I'll just stick w...

LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
Audacity has links for LAME that point to a website that allows you to install LAME 3.99.3. I've been using this version for years without any problems. Sourceforge for LAME is showing the latest version is 3.99.5, with a link to a page with compiled binaries for windows (32 and 64 bit). I downloade...

Re: "What you hear" no longer available in Vista??
If you move up to Win7, you may find yourself using special software instead of the missing Stereo-Mix. You're right. I tried Audacity on my Windows 7 PC at work and could not get the Stereo-Mix option. I've used Replay Media Catcher to record audio before I got the driver issue resolved. It worked...

Re: "What you hear" no longer available in Vista??
Problem solved. A driver update (Conexant High-Definition Audio) from HP fixed the problem. I never thought of checking that. Automatic HP updates were disabled because system performance was occasionally slow as a glacier after waking up. Likewise for Windows updates, but at least those were manual...

Re: "What you hear" no longer available in Vista??
Steve, That was some reply. Thanks. At the last job I used Ubuntu 11.4. I, too, did not care much for Unity, so I disabled it and stuck with the Gnome desktop. Good idea about virtualbox. I am currently running Ubuntu 11.10 under it, mainly for xephem . Works like a champ. Does Linux use its own dri...

Re: "What you hear" no longer available in Vista??
Do you have a reason for specifying "Ubuntu" rather than any other Linux distribution? In my experience more recent versions of Ubuntu are becoming increasingly sluggish and difficult to customise. The only reason I mention Ubuntu is because I have some familiarity with it from using in my last job...
