Got it going. The solution was to put the MP3 on my desktop and DRAG it to Audacity. Don't have a clue as to why it won't import any other way, but I'm not going to question it...

Windows XP Audacity ver. 1.2.6 I downloaded a background music track into a My Music file and opened Audacity. Went to Project, then Import Audio. The file showed up on the list, but when I selected it and asked it to Open, I got a Audacity window that said: "audacity.exc has encountered a prob...
