Re: Is there a way to smooth a wave form?
Thanks, Trebor. (And nice to see you here.) I have little experience with compressors and limiters, and hadn't yet gotten round to looking them up. ....Okay, I tried it some. It increased the loudness without altering the sound. Dynamic compression reduces the "dynamic contrast" by making quiet sou...

Re: audio devices
I was trying to record something from youtube and other internet radio websites. Many soundcards/drivers simply don't allow you to record "internally"... On many soundcards you can only record from the microphone or from something plugged-in. This page tells you how to do it if your souncard suppor...

Re: Please Recommend an "Audacity Friendly" Laptop
A mic input might work, but the piano should conect to a line input, not a mic input. Offhand, I don't know of any laptops that have line-in. The Berhinger device should work when switched to "line". There is an output line that clearly goes into my computer... The USB should be connected to the com...

Re: Sound from LP's
The link is missing (or I can't see it on my computer for some reason), but I'm at work right now and I can't listen anyway.... It sounds like it's in a tunnel and if you listen, there's instruments in the back ground but very faint. There are ways to miswire the analog-side to get something like a ...

Re: Distortion Caused by Too Much Mic Gain - Can This Be Rem
There is a Declipper tool ("effect") that you can try. (I'm not sure where I got it... It might be one of the LADSPA Plug-Ins .) There are other de-clipping and clip repair tools too, but none of them are perfect. Clipping (distortion) happens when you hit a limit and the top (and bottom) wave peaks...

Re: level out pitch
Auto-Tune or Melodyne might be able to do it, but it can be tricky, especially when you have one element in a mix that's out of tune (such as a voice), with everything else in-tune. Melodyne can apparently do some amazing things similar to that, but I've never used either of these tools. These thin...

Re: Transfering USB Turntable to WAV file's and then onto a
We need to figure-out where the problem is... I've recorded an album on the new Audacity program and then "exported" the file onto my computer. What format did you use? Since your computer is asking "open with?" it probably doesn't recognize it as an audio file. FYI- WAV is the best format in this s...

Re: calling all cars - any thoughts on this mic?
I need a mic for my conversion from cassette audio books to CDs. No... You don't want to use a microphone for that. You should use a direct connection. Hopefully, the cassette player has a headphone output or RCA line-level outputs. Just get a cable or cable with the appropriate connectors and conn...

Re: FAQs don't help
Many sound cards & drivers simply do not support "Stereo Mix" or "What-U-Hear". However, there are some applications mentioned in the tutorial that can get-around this limitation. Total Recorder seems to be popular, but it's not free. The tutorial also explains how to use a loopback cable from line...

Re: digitizing 45 rpm vinyl
Yeah... The reason it's sometimes done with 78's is because most modern turntables don't play at 78 RPM. I believe 'Noise Reduction' should be first... Yes, but you generally need to remove the clicks & pops before attempting "regular" noise reduction. If you don't do that, the clicks & pops in your...
