Re: windows 8 - which version?
I don't have windows 8. There may be some "performance issues", but as far as sound quality, it doesn't make any difference (assuming everything works proplely). Sound quality is a function of your soundcard/interface/ADC (and possibly the driver). Once the digital data comes out of the analog-to-di...

Re: Recording electric guitar without a preamp, acoustically
However, when I try to do the same thing using gain/distortion... I assume that's louder? In that case, you are probably overdriving the laptop's preamp. You can try moving the laptop farther away from the amp, or maybe put a pillow over the laptop's mic. (Both of those things are going to change t...

Re: Need help for cleaning a record
Noise reduction works best when you have a low-level background noise. When the noise is bad, the software can't separate the background from the foreground and there is often very little you can do. ...If the noise is bad, the cure can be worse than the disease". If the whistle is a constant single...

Re: Comprssing 1 hour 54 min mp3 audio to fit cd
Just for future reference - Since bitrate is kilo bits per second, we can change bits to bytes, seconds to minutes, etc., and with some rounding we can estimate file size as follows: File Size in MB = Bitrate in kbps x Playing time/140 A regular audio CD has a bitrate of 1411kbps, which makes it aro...

Re: Importing .VOB files ...
I'm trying to only export the dialogue track, without the music. So, hopefully I can succeed w/DVD Decrypter. If it's a 5.1 channel track, you should be able to isolate the six separate channels. If you are lucky, the center channel may not contain any music. But it probably does contain some music...

Re: convert stereo to mono
...for saving space and *before* conversion to AAC by FFMPEG. I wouldn't want a "fake" stereo file, but I don't think you'll save space by saving a mono file as mono AAC. AAC uses Joint Stereo by default, which encodes the L+R & L-R signals separately. With mono, there is no sound in the L-R "chann...

Re: Saving to a CD or DVD
My problem now is burning the project to a CD or DVD that I can listen to. Do NOT "save" your "project". Use "File -> Export" to create the audio format of your choice (WAV, MP3, etc.). If you want to play the Cd or DVD on a regular CD or DVD player, that requres a particular CD or DVD format. If y...

Re: Continuous Background Hum - EZCAP cassette
Hum is analog noise. Since the USB connection (and everything after) is digital, the problem is inside the cassette player. The USB connection completely bypasses your soundcard (for recording). Are you sure that noise is not on the tape? Do you hear the noise when you pause playback? I can't listen...

Re: Running Lame
I've never had that problem, but there are many other LAME-based encoders. It's an extra step, but you can save-as (export to) WAV, and then use another program for MP3 encoding. XRECODE (FREE!!!) or XRECODE II ($15 USD) are handy for all kinds of audio conversions. Or, you can use LameDrop (FREE!!!...
