Re: Trouble labeling tracks when recording LPs
Mp3tag (FREE!!!!) is probably the best application for tagging files (adding/editing Id3 tags ). It works with almost any format, not just MP3s. Tagging for WAV files is not very standardized, so I'd avoid WAV and go with FLAC or ALAC (lossless compression) if you want a non-lossy format. Sometimes...

Re: Recording from dj mixer to HP laptop
My laptop just has a mic line for a 'line-in', can i record through this without causing damage? I have read that i could possibly blow parts of my laptop and therefore need to make adjustments to audacity settings. You won't "blow" anything on your laptop, but as Koz says, you are unlikely to get ...

Re: Vocal playback speeded up
Does this only happen when you play-back in Audacity, or does it happen with Windows Media Player too? If it's only Audacity, there is a playback speed slider next to the green "Play" arrow.

Re: Drum smashes from the 1980's . . . Can we tone them down
These are complete songs, not just drum tracks, right? You can't "un-mix" a song and isolate one instrument... So, about all you can do is experiment with equalization (such as bass-boost/cut, etc.). You can also try some (dynamic) compression. Compression reduces the dynamic range by making quiet p...

Re: me again- Losing sound qaulity when exporting to MP3
MP3 encoding doesn't change the volume. If you are loosing quality , a better quality setting (higher bitrate) should help. MP3 is lossy compression, so you always loose some theoretical quality and you can get small changes in the volume peaks. But the overall volume should stay the same. (Some pea...

Re: Normalize/volume consistency
I've used "Normalize" but that doesn't seem to do the trick for making everything a consistent volume Right! Normaliation works by by checking/setting the peak levels. Peak levels don't correlate very well with perceived loudness, and the loudest peak sets the volume for the whole file. There are t...

Re: Equalization and linear frequency shifting
There is a Change Pitch effect. Of course, that will shift-down the low frequencies too. You could try splitting the audio into two bands with high-pass & low-pass filters. Then pitch-sift down the high frequencies and re-mix the hign & low band files. Trying to figure out what's being said is getti...

Re: Suddenly, poor quality
I record from my headphone out on the laptop to line in on the recorder, then from headphone out on the recorder into mic in, into Audacity on the laptop. Your TASCAM has a USB port. If you record with the TASCAM, you can transfer the file digitally into your computer via USB. (No need to "record" ...

Re: Recording the multi channel USB output from a soundboard
I'd record with no audiance. ;) And you'd get a lot of pushback from the producers. A theater with no people in it is a echo-ridden cavern and performances without the audience are sterile and flat. You are right, that's up to the producer. But come-on, most recorded music is not recorded live. Pro...

Re: Recording the multi channel USB output from a soundboard
I am trying to record the channelized output from most common soundboards equipped with a USB output, up to at least 16 individual channels. You're trying to make a 16-channel recording, right??? First, check to make sure the mixer's USB output supports multi-channel recording. Many do not, and you...
