Re: analog High resolution output and recording?

Did you configure Audacity for 192kHz before generating that tone? Have you zoomed-in and checked the timing to make sure you really have a 70kHz tone? If you mathematicaly generate a 70kHz tone at the default 48kHz sample rate, you will get aliasing. You can do some tests with the Rightmark RMAA Te...

Re: stream recording

How to record what I'm watching on the computer screen? Of course Audacity is an audio editor, so you should be able to record the sound, but you'll have to use something else if you want to record the video you are "watching". "What-U-Hear" is the one that should work... Some soundcards/drivers do...

Re: HELP!!!

Do you have the latest version of LAME from this page ? I assume you still have the original file? Did it play OK from Audacity when you first opened it? Did you do any editing or add any effects, or did you just convert it to MP3? the background music was gone I'm not sure what you mean by that... ...

Re: amplify/noise removal problems

Did you follow this tutorial and feed-in a "noise fingerprint" of noise only? it brought the volume back down to where it was before, or even lower. That's strange... You can get artifacts (side-effects), but the signal level shouldn't drop... ...these louder portions also have a bit of hiss or back...

Re: Tiny dropout "crackling" repair?

That could be tough... You'll probably have to experiment with a few things. You can try the Click Removel filter ("effect"). There are lots of applications for removing clicks & pops from vinyl recordings, and one of those might work. This page has a list of vinyl clean-up programs. (Most are not f...

Re: Is Normalize with MP3 Levels Lossless?

It's a lossy process... Audacity ALWAYS de-compresses the file when you open it. If/when you re-save (export) in a lossy format, you are going through a 2nd lossy compression step. All "normal" audio editors work this way. It sounds like MP3gain is the perfect solution for you. There is another FREE...

Re: Waveform Display

What is your analog source? ...i.e. What hardware are you recording from? Is this the exact same set-up as your laptop, and are you recording the same exact audio? Since it appears to be clipping at 75%, it looks like a problem on the analog side... It looks like you are feeding an already-distorted...

Re: How do I separate songs for making a CD.

I took the time to go back and forth between the .mp3 disk and the .wav disk. I did not hear a big difference with my old ears, but I have to admit the source was not great quality to begin with. Good! A good high-bitrate MP3 can sound identical to the original uncompressed file. But it does throw-...

Re: Looking for a "smooth" effect?

if you chage speed and ptich together, nothing bad should happen. In order to change speed & pitch independently FFT is used, and with FFT you can sometimes get artifacts. Depending on how the FFT is tweaked, these artifacts can be reduced/minimized, but once it's done you can't remove the artifacts...
