Re: Mom needs a CD and she's a Newbie, woo hoo

I'm a big fan of CNET and after reading that Audacity was "easy to use"
It's relatively easy if you understand the concepts & terminology digital audio editing. ;) Otherwise, there is a LOT to learn.

Re: recording two channels at once...sperately

Sure! If you are recording in stereo, you should be able to get the guitar on one side and vocals on the other side. Then, you can split those into separate files if you wish. Or, you can just select the left or right channel before applying any effects, or volume adjustment, etc. If you want comple...

Re: How to decrease volume of a music file?

The Amplify effect should work just fine for what you're trying to do... MP3gain works like ReplayGain, except it adjusts the volume of the actual MP3 file so that it will work with ANY system or player. (And, it works without decompressing/re-compressing the MP3.) You'd have to adjust the settings ...

Re: 55 min sermon only got. 2 min.

For future reference... If you are recording something critical and there's no chance for "take 2", you need a back-up system recording in parallel. Computers are the least reliable electronic devices we own! It helps if you have a computer dedicated to recording & audio, and if the person doing the...

Re: Keeping the amplification the same

If the automatic processing (dynamic compression) doesn't give you the results you want, you can use the Envelope Tool to "shape" the volume manually. Is there a quick feature...? If it's only one song, and it's for a museum, it's probably worth taking the time to get the best results possible. Even...

Re: Recordi Audio From VOB File

If you can't get it working with Audacity, try SUPER . It's a FREE audio/video conversion program that can convert to/from most formats, and it can extract the audio to a WAV file. Then, if you want to edit the WAV file you can open it with Audacity. If you download SUPER, watch out! Their website h...

Re: Noise removal (coughing) from a flute recording?

If you have a LOT of patience and a good ear, you might be able to replace the note(s) with the same note from a different part of the performance. You'll need to start/end your selction on a waveform zero-crossing, or you may need a short (millisecond) crossfade in order to get a smooth transition....

Re: Recording a Narration

You need a good microphone, a good interface, good acoustics (a quiet, sound absorbing environment). The most economical solution would be a "studio style" USB mic condenser mic, something like this this do the trick. With this type of mic, the soundcard/interface is built-into the mic. You can add ...

Re: Need Opinion Regarding Recording Quality

There's a LOT to learn about multi-track recording. You might want to pick-up a book and/or subscribe to Recording Magazine . The more you can learn, and the more you practice you get, the better your recordings will be. It's all "links in a chain", and it all starts with a good instrument, a good p...

Re: Change pitch and speed of a song for export

You can use the Change Speed effect to change speed and pitch together. (The envelope tool is not used for this.) If you don't already know how much error there is, you'll have to do it by ear. The original version of I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash was recorded slightly off key. Interesting. Do you ...
