Re: 2nd USB mic issue?

There's more than one way to do this stuff, but IMO - One USB mic can be super-convenient. More than one USB microphone can be super inconvenient and possibly less reliable, if you can get it to work at all. :( Reliability is important if you have invited guests who won't want to sit around while yo...

Re: Audacity Basic Questions, Monetized YouTube Videos.

Will the creators of Audacity need anything? For example payments and/or permissions. No. That's true with every audio & video editor I know of... There are no restrictions on what you can do with the tools. Of course Audacity is audio-only so if there's video you'll need a video editor. Most video...

Re: Importing Various Sample Rates Question

Okay so I recorded a song at 96 kHz (sample rate) as mono (1058 kbps) 1058 kbps doesn't make sense for a regular uncompressed WAV file. Where are you seeing that? (Compressed files can have almost any bitrate). 96khz x 8-bits is 768kbps. A stereo file or a 16-bit mono file is twice that. 1411kbps i...

Re: Confusion over Recording Devices labeled "loopback"

I've never used Virtual Audio Cable. Loopback is similar to Stereo Mix and it's a Windows (or driver?) feature that allows you to "capture" whatever is playing through your soundcard. ...If you are listening through headphones plugged-into your Realtek soundcard, Realtek (loopback) should record eve...

Re: Best way to normalize or compress music volume

I have played around with the Compressor to normalize all my music to a constant and consistent volume. Normalizing and compression are different but they are often used together for "maximum loudness". Normalization makes ONE adjustment to the whole file. It's no different from changing the volume...

Re: Best way to normalize or compress music volume

There are no "one size fits all" presets so you just have to experiment and you'll probably have to use different settings on different songs. There are 3rd-party compressor plug-ins if you want to try some different ones. You also can try the Limiter. Limiting is a kind of fast dynamic compression ...

Re: MP3 import failure

Download and run ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe to install it.

Audacity doesn't normally use FFmpeg to open or export MP3s but your file(s) might not really be MP3 or they might be "imperfect" MP3s so FFmpeg is worth a try and it doesn't hurt to have it (for other formats).

Re: Upsampling on Import IS A FLAW?

So is it not true that you cannot upsample? Meaning you can not increase the amount of information within an audio file once its recorded, you can only decrease it? Right... You can't add useful information, or useful resolution. But of course you can up-sample the bit-depth and/or the sample rate....

Re: moving multiple samples, harmonic distortion and more

1- The ability to select multiple samples and especially in a horizontal way, so as to select every peak of a certain amplitude and move them together, similar to how you would work velocity in a piano roll. I don't know of a built-in way of doing that but it should be possible if you write your ow...

Re: Vocals can't be removed

Try some different songs... Sometimes it works "perfectly" and sometimes it doesn't. With most songs it will remove most of the vocals, often with some remaining vocal reverb. You can't un-mix audio but it uses an "old trick" of subtracting left from right to remove "centered" vocals as well as ever...
