Hi gents, can audacity be set up to trigger an alarm if the sound goes above a certain limit? For example I want it to trigger an alarm or signal on screen if the recording sound gets too loud.

Can this be done? Any hints or points to where I can find out would be very helpful

I'm going with no. Audacity isn't going to know how to handle data unless it comes in a sound wrapper like WAV--in your case, only WAV.
