Tried all the suggestions and it works when I am using the mic on the PC but the problems seem to occur when I am using the Line 6 GSX and podfarm through Audacity. Not sure whether it is a problem with that now.

I have been deliberately turning everything off when in use including even my anti-virus. The only thing running is my Line 6 pod GX which I play gtr through. Cheers for that link, there are a few things there I will definitely try tonight when recording. Fingers crossed.
