Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
>>The only assumption you can make is that the maximum volume will be -1 dB. Consider a classical piece that may be mostly at -10 dB or so until a cymbal clash to -1 dB at the end, and a rock track that also has a peak of -1 dB but never goes lower than -3 dB. << Great answers Gale; you obviously kn...

Re: Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
Thank you Gale and Ignatz, The reason my top and bottom numbers were identical is that I had loaded an already Amplified track! Am I correctly assuming that if I set the Amplify setting to the same value in the max. peak (lower box) for each of my recordings, e.g., -1dB, they well all have pretty mu...

Amplify settings (2) are always locked together
When I change one of the two Amplify settings the other changes as well, and they are always equal. Is this normal? And, the OK button grays out if I choose a positive dB amount of amplification. What is this all about please? If I want Amplify to amplify as much as possible without clipping, why do...

Re: Work Flow for reel-to-reel recordings of LPs Please comm
I fooled around with it a bit, and it seems that I can only successfully click 1 sec. or more away from the last long thin vertical cursor line. I cannot make another vertical cursor line in the wave form within + or - 1 sec. of the existing cursor line. Can you?

>>I find that when zoomed in I am not able to click just anywhere. I have to try several different points before it will "take". Is this normal?<<
This has nothing to do with the high pass filter, just my general use of Audacity.

Re: Work Flow for reel-to-reel recordings of LPs Please comm
Ignatz & Wax, Thank you. I read the tutorial and hope that the advice for recording LPs applies to my digitization of reel-to-reel tape recording of LPs. I have a few questions still if you have the time to respond: The high pass filter to remove rumble has three parameters to set. The tutorial only...

tag format
In order to have the tags be most readable, searchable, etc. is there a best format? For example for ARTIST is it best to put Neil Young or Young, Neil and for multiple artists, best to use just last names, separate by commas or not, etc. Let's say I have a recording of 5 mixed artists that I am sav...

Re: adjusting Windows vol. independently from Audacity
Thank you very much Ignatz for taking the time to respond so thoroughly to my questions. If you get a chance and can afford the time, take a look at my workflow post here in the same section of the forum, and let me know what you think. I will start applying your suggestions immediately. I have not ...

Work Flow for reel-to-reel recordings of LPs Please comment.
Below is a work flow suggested by my son for converting my reel-to-reel tapes of LP records to digital using Audacity 1.3. I would be most grateful for your comments and suggestions and improvements. I am not sure I am doing things in the best order and that I am using the correct Effects or the cor...
