Re: Workflow questions & Chris' Compression
Thanks, Ignatz, I think I am getting it now. I really see no reason for me to use compression for what I plan to use these audio files for. As for the effect Amplify, might it cause any artifacts or does is merely raise the amplitude to the max. I set, e.g., -1 dB. IOW, it would not distort or chang...

Re: Workflow questions & Chris' Compression
Thanks WC,
That makes sense. All those multiple bits in the Audacity Project certainly do make the data more vulnerable. It is an easy thing to save the .wav, so I will do so. Thank you,

Workflow questions & Chris' Compression
Re.: Basic Recording, Editing and Exporting Tutorial The tutorial advises saving a project as a WAV file for future use, e.g., re-editing. Why can I not just save my unedited .aup project files and use those for the same purpose. Those get created when I make my recording and surely have all the dat...

Re: Noise Reduction vs. Noise Removal
The tutorial shows: Click Effect > Noise Reduction I think it should say "Noise Removal". If it's an on-line tutorial could you post a link and I'll check it out. file:///C:/Program%20Files%20%28x86%29/Audacity%201.3%20Beta%20%28Unicode%29/help/manual/noise_removal.html This is the link that shows ...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
>>If you're sticking with lossless formats (WAV and Flac) then the discussion that followed (from ignatz's enquiry re. MP3's) can be ignored.<<
Thank you Steve (& Ignatz & Koz) for all your help. It has made my project so much more pleasant having the support of all you guys.

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
I have seen some barebones editors that can supposedly do a basic edit of an mp3 (cutting a segment, doing a fade) without recompression--allegedly, I say allegedly. MP3Split can do basic (cut and trim) editing on MP3 and Ogg files without decoding/re-encoding. http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3spl...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
I did some experimenting and this seems to work. There may be a more elegant method. Split stereo track from the black arrow/triangle Put cursor in top channel Edit, move cursor to track start (cursor is now at beginning of top channel) Edit, select cursor to track end (top channel is now highlight...
