Re: Recording Music From Tv
I tried to record some "old time radio shows" (Green Hornet, Shadow, etc.) that was broadcast over internet radio. This was some time ago however. I started Audacity, made sure it was recording from my sound card, went to the internet site and started the show, started Audacity recording and everyth...

Re: Headphone recommendations wanted
Thanks for your comments. A little technical education never hurts. Since there seems to be fewer places to try out this kind of thing, it's difficult to choose. And there are more choices for headphones than ever. In the good old days there were lots of audio stores so you could go in and try, or l...

Re: Headphone recommendations wanted
Again, my thanks for the suggestions and comments.
As I mentioned, comfort is very important. I now realize that there is a difference between "on the ear" and "over the ear". My AKG K-240 completely covers the ear and that seems to be one reason they are so comfortable.
Regards, Pat

Re: Headphone recommendations wanted
Thanks very much for your comments. Harman now makes the AKG headphones. The K142 HD (the old K140) now sells for $190. The K242 HD now goes for $280. Certainly up there in price but you usually get what you pay for. http://www.akg.com/personal/ This is the link to the AKG site. I guess I better sta...

Headphone recommendations wanted
I am currently using AKG K-240 headphones (made in Austria) and I'm very happy with them. They are also 40 years old. Aside from the high quality sound reproduction, they are extremely comfortable: very light weight (8.7 ounces) and large, cushioned ear cups that entirely cover my ears. Should these...

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
Koz: Now you've gone and done it. There you are being practical. For the serious audiophile any perceived channel imbalance is something to be tracked down and killed without hesitation. Being the amateur that I am, I guess that's why the very first question of my original post. In all seriousness t...

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
stevethefiddle: I'll play with the pan tool as you suggest. I always appreciate your advice. waxcylinder: After all, that is how the hardware is supposed to work. If it doesn't, there is a fault somewhere: misaligned cartridge, poor/dirty connections, un-balanced amp/pre-amp etc. - so ideally it is ...

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
Koz: Thanks for the reply. I did mis-speak (write) when I implied that there actually was clipping. I know there isn't unless you tell Amplify to "allow" it. But my understanding is correct then----these tools work with "peaks" as limiting factors rather than some kind of average or compilation. I d...

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
The strong suggestion at the beginning of this was that all the presentations had one low channel over multiple records. Kos is correct here, and the balance knob on the amplifier would solve the problem. Again, this condition is only seen via the recording meter in Audacithy and my interpretation....

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
Koz: Again, my thanks. It's not my intention to re-engineer the LP records. I don't have the knowledge, tools, or the skill to be that foolish. I have to assume they did it "right" the first time around. My only goal is to fix the wear and tear on the records; and cure, when possible, minor defects ...
