About a month ago I followed the advise I received in this forum and installed 1.3.9 alpha (I was given the URL to do so). I'm about to begin some serious editing. Is there any reason to switch to 1.3.9 beta, or are they essentially the same?
Thanks

Re: Stereo-Mono
Yes, I've been saving an MP3 copy, with the same intent--I probably should be recording in WAV anyway, shouldn't I? Have been going over the instructions for 1.3.8. Do like many of the additions I've found so far...and no problems so far. Where's the best list of improvements.

Re: Stereo-Mono
Thanks: That's quite clear. As you may have guessed, I didn't get my concern from forum comments. About a year ago I had been working on a project for days, and one day, to my horrow, no sound--there was a sound envelope, but no sound. I was initially devastated. With help here, I eventually recover...

Re: Stereo-Mono
While we're at discussing things, let me ask you about something. I think Audacity is an amazingly terrific app, and we should all be thankful to all of you for it. There's one aspect that I find very questionable, making it "dangerous" to use, and to save after using. And that's the part about not ...

Re: Stereo-Mono
Thanks Steve: that works fine. By the way, are you related to "The Cat in the Fiddle"? Anway, regarding the 1.3 version you recommend, is that the ANSI or the Unicode version from the page you recommended? Also, are you saying that it should be stable enough that I should use it for my project if 2....

Set Sample Format and Rate
I'm recording voice on an Edirol R09 for a photographic multimedia piece: I generally set the Set Rate to 44.1, though have used 48 (I can set either of these on the Edirol too). I have no idea whether I should change the default Set Sample Format from 32 bit floating to something else? What would b...

Re: Stereo-Mono
Cool: my editing of the project will start in mid Sept. Probably too early for 2. and too late of 1.34 Oh well, that's life with these computer thingys. :). Would you say that the way I've discovered (albeit a bit klunky) is as good as any (deleting the contents of one of the two split channels, and...

Stereo-Mono
I'm neither a new nor a very experienced user: have been with Audacity for 3 years, but infrequently--just when I'm doing a multimedia production. I have a Mono Microphone I think (Electrovoice 635 ND), but 1.2 insists on bringing it in as a stereo. Why oh why? Then to make it a Mono and not clip or...

Re: Normalize vs. Amplify
Thanks folks: two questions: 1. Where is the index for all that information you showed me under the URL on Normalize and Amplify. I've found the 50 most popular, and so on, but where is the complete index or contents? And 2. Re the compressor plug-in, How do I download and install a web page, which ...

Normalize vs. Amplify
For interviews etc. in order to get the sound up to an optimal amplitude (say, -3 db per track), is there any difference or advantage to using Amplify vs. Normalize--if I set Amplify to -3 db to start? Do these two do essentially the same thing (I"m ignorant about the zero centering). In the workflo...
