Re: Need help downloading Chris' Dynamic Compressor

I got it this time by copying to a temp folder, then moving it to the Plugins folder. Thanks.

Need help downloading Chris' Dynamic Compressor

I am running Audacity Beta 1.3.12 with Windows Vista on a HP Pavilion Slimline computer. Audacity has been running without a glitch for several weeks. I am currently trying to download and use Chris’ Dynamic Compressor. I have followed his instructions carefully: 1) On his website, rightclick on “pl...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

This will probably be the last piece of info relative to Noise Reduction on my setup. I thought about a remark that either WC or Steve made earlier that one of the most vulnerable links in the chain is the weak signal coming from the Cartridge to the PreAmp. So I decided to upgrade the TT to PreAmp ...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

WC, I think that you might find the following instructions stated directly from the USB PhonoPlus V.2 manual to be interesting: MONITORING WHAT YOU RECORD: Set the front MONITOR SOURCE switch to PREAMP in order to monitor the analog audio coming directly from the preamp. This is useful for auditioni...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Steve, I am not obsessive about numbers, but I do appreciate fine wine, well engineered autos, etc, including good music. I have never been able to accept mediocrity in anything that I attempted. I appreciate your attention to detail. Your posts have helped to shorten my learning curve and have stim...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Hey Guys, I just made a minor but very interesting discovery. I had a connection established between the "Phono Line Out" on the back of the PhonoPlus V.2 into an "Aux In" on the back of my stereo amplifier so that I could listen (Monitor) while I was recording. Out of curiosity, I unplugged this co...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Wow, a lot of things to think about. Let me try to answer all the questions from the several postings. 1- Yes, the PhonoPlus V.2 does have a switch on the front panel, labeled as "Line In" and "Phono". It is set to "Phono" 2- I measured the noise level using both USB Port power and a separate transf...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Steve, Thanks for all the help. You have really help to reduce my learning curve. I'll go do some recording now. I'm going to start with some old Ramsey Lewis Trio albums and a couple of Mahler symphonies. When I get deeply involved with editing, I'm sure I'll have some more questions. But I will do...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Steve, Following up on your ideas, I ran a few test on Noise Levels that yielded the following info when my USB PhonoPlus V.2 is set to 0 (neutral) Gain and the Audacity Input Slider set to 0.5 (which records at about -6dB for most LPs) : Audacity Running with no Audio input -65 dB Audacity Running ...

Re: Excessive Static with the Use of USB PhonoPlus V.2

Steve, I am using 1. 3. 12 version of Audacity. I Did not know that you could right-click on the meter, or that you could change the dB range. Great Info. Thanks. You state that with no Audio input into Audacity you should get a meter reading below -70 dB. At what level is your "Input Level Slider" ...
