Re: Amplication/Normalization and Clipping

Steve, After some trial and error tests today, I have discovered that I can avoid clipping after compression by simply setting the Maximum Amplitude in CDC at no more than .95. This seems to work fine. I'm still playing around with the Compression Ratio setting. The default as you know is set at .5,...

Re: Amplication/Normalization and Clipping

Great question. As much as I enjoy classical music in the quietness of my home sanctuary, I have much more time to listen to it when I am on long road trips -- frequently lasting 6-8 hrs in length. I find it very annoying to have to keep fiddling with the volume control in the auto, constantly adjus...

Amplication/Normalization and Clipping

I like to listen to Classical Music, but I don’t have much time to do it in the quiet environment of my den. Most of my listening is done in the relatively noisy environment of an automobile. Because of the wide Dynamic Range of Classical music, this presents somewhat of a problem. I therefore have ...

Steve
Very interesting info about reverse processing of Click Repair. I understand the logic and methodology I'll play around with it. It may be splitting hairs, but every little bit helps.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Parameters for High Pass Filter and Noise Remover?

WC I export a 32-bit WAV file for input to Clickrepair I have very similar settings in ClickRepair to you - but my default De-click is set to 30 - and I use the Reverse setting I notice in one of your postings that you state that you use Click Repair in reverse. Have you found that this gives better...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

WC I understand what you are advising on starting out with least favorite LPs. Already in just a couple of weeks my techniques have changed and minor tweaking has already yielded big improvements in quality (largely thanks to the ideas and advice that you and Steve have shared with me). That being a...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

Steve, I went out to the Wiki a few minutes ago and read the recommendation regarding this. It sounds like the whole situation might be clarified somewhat if Normalize and Amplify were transformed into only one instead of two choices, but with the option that you and WC are recommending. Seems like ...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

WC, I'm a little confused. While your recommendation sounds correct, is this not what normalize already does? Also, I find it interesting that you choose to use "Amplify" whereas Steve chooses to use "Normalize". I gather, however, from reading your past Postings that you do a lot of Vinyl transfer,...

Parameters for High Pass Filter and Noise Remover?

As my first Audacity Project I have recorded 2 old Ramsey Lewis Trio albums (purchased in the 60s), cutting out some songs that I never cared for and combining 2 albums into one really great album. It has a nice combination of loud passages as well as some very quiet ones. I borrowed from the experi...

Amplify vs Normalize parameters

I have read all the tutuorials on both Amplify and Normalize . I have also searched the Forum on this topic and read everything that I could find. I do not have any DC Offset in my recordings and my system seems to be reasonably balanced. I have therefore decided that I should use Amplify instead of...
