Yes please let us know if the VST meter is more useful than you thought for use in Audacity and if you update your script so that it will speak the meter peak on demand without tabbing manually to the control. I would think that would be useful.

Perhaps you could try updating all accounts running on OS X Server to Mountain Lion? Make sure that you delete the audacity.cfg settings file wherever your accounts are reading it from ( http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/preferences.html#stored ) then try launching 2.1.0 again using your network....
