Do you see the Automatic Crash Recovery dialogue http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovery.html and then you choose to recover?

Please post the contents of Help > Show Log... if you need more help. That needs to be done after trying to recover the project.

Most computer crashes when recording are caused by incorrect or faulty audio drivers (or sometimes faulty video drivers). i checked my sound drivers and apparently they are all up to date :/ If Windows says that, you don't have to believe it.
