If you use ACX Check the maximum selection it will analyze is 100 million samples (about 37 minutes at 44100 Hz sample rate).

"Wave Stats" won't analyze more than 30 seconds whatever the length of the selection.

Thanks for the report. I found it prone to crash even when trying to enable it. It seems safe if you open it without audio playing and then press Apply, without pressing Play in the effect. I added a bug report http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1257.
