There are web browser extensions too. To distinguish from other types of extensions, you could say "file name extensions".

Can you double-check you have these SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio, v.5.10.0.5515_RC22-WHQL, A11 drivers?

If the problem has only just started happening, perhaps you could try reinstalling those drivers.
