If you are using the current 2.1.1, the special playback commands do not work, due to a bug.
As a workaround, each time you open a new project window, press Record then Stop. You can close the recorded track afterwards.

Re: Audacity locking up issue
You're on Yosemite. Jseppi is on El Capital Please, adjust your software so that it writes "El Capitan". ;) I have to correct that too many times. Probably not the same problem. It might not be. So @168Jones, it would be far simpler if you had started a fresh topic. It confuses everyone t...

Re: Project might be corrupted
The computer I use for recording the set is running Xubuntu, Audacity is running version 2.0.6-alpha. Where did you get that 2.0.6-alpha from? It's dated August 1 2014, not at all close to the date of 2.0.6 release, so could be highly unstable. You should not use alpha builds unless you have a reas...

Re: Assign RAM as Temp file
The reason for the question is.. looking in Task Manager [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc], it says Audacity is using 10 MB with a 2 hr stereo FLAC open. 10 MB?? That's nothing! Earlier Audacity had an option to store audio data in RAM for faster access. The option tended to crash before Audacity's allocati...

Re: Assign RAM as Temp file
So do you want to "vote" for a 64-bit version of Audacity on Windows? That's the only way Audacity will address more than 2 GB to 3 GB of RAM and have Windows manage the RAM. Hmm yes.. I vote for a 64-bit build . I added your vote to http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Feature_Requests . Gale

Re: Assign RAM as Temp file
That's the only way Audacity will address more than 2 GB to 3 GB of RAM and have Windows manage the RAM. "RamDisk Plus" is commercial ($80 US) software that claims to be able to exceed the OS memory limitations on 32-bit Windows. For a 32-bit app like Audacity, the Windows memory limitati...

Re: Recording stops short
I use a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 device, which I feel sure works. At the bottom right of the Audacity window, the second from the right says End or Length. The second of these is activated. Are you saying I should not set anything in that little number window? I suggest you follow the advice to r...

Re: Project might be corrupted
Please, see the pink panel at the top of the page and give us that information. Are you still on Xubuntu? Or actually on Windows? I got a bit of a problem here, I was recording a set using Audacity. I remember to save it correctly and turn off the laptop that was running the Audacity, now when I'm t...

Re: Exported M4A file contain zero data
That is OK, I made it clearer in my post that the file name chosen for export should be typed in the export dialogue as normal, not in the command.Tabs wrote:Made a boob... but got the understanding now and all is well.
Thank you very much for your guidance and instruction.
