Re: Analog microphone
Assuming you have selected the correct recording device in Device Toolbar then yes you will need a mic input. An XLR to USB cable also won't give you enough power because those are meant for dynamic mics, so get a USB interface with an XLR input, such as http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioB...

Re: Audacity crashing mid-recording
Please tell us your version of Audacity (all three numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page). If you have Transport > Sound Activated Recording enabled in Audacity 2.1.1, this may crash. In case El Capitan is not the problem, I suggest you try "2.1.2 RC3 (for testing)" near the t...

Re: How can I repair corrupted 3GP audio files?
mp4repair.org don't seem to claim support for AMR, unless you found something to say they do. http://grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5 don't claim to repair AMR either but they are cheaper and there are alleged ways to make the software repair the entire file for free (I won't say what those ways are he...

Re: Have 2 Audacities open at the same time?
For example we could have "Solo button behaviour: Only one track soloed/Multiple tracks soloed/No Solo button." If this were hardware, it would probably be a push button labelled something like: "Solo: single / multi" "Solo button: Single track/Multi-track/None" might ...

Re: Administrator approval
Is there a Bugzilla enhancement request for this? I don't think so, but I can add it sometime if not. But first we would have to be clear what we want. Separate preferences for export directory and save directory? Or specify the starting directory internally, and if changed by the user, just write ...

Re: Have 2 Audacities open at the same time?
I'm not sure how much "developing" I need to do to be classed as a "developer" When you are listed in credits as a Developer, you are counted as being on that "side". ;) If the "other side" is unanimous that the default is wrong, as we are, then we have a sol...

Re: Have 2 Audacities open at the same time?
I've never run two instances of the same Audacity version, but I do sometimes run two portable installs of 2.1.1 and another version. Have a look at the manual: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Portable_Audacity Yes Audacity "unofficially" supports running two instances if at least one i...

Re: Have 2 Audacities open at the same time?
It seems to me that Simple would be a better default setting for most users, it says on that page in the Manual: "Standard" will suit those used to mixing desks and other professional audio software which to me, at least, implies expert users and certainly not " Standard " usage...

Re: Administrator approval
From my own experience of Windows 10, most applications now automatically export/save to the Windows dedicated User “Libraries”, i.e. “Downloads”, “Documents”, “Pictures”, “Music”, and “Videos”. I'd like to see Audacity default to the Windows "Music" folder - that seems eminently more sen...
