FWIW the Xcode 7.1 IDE builds Audacity OK for me on El Capitan. But you have to ignore its complaints about the 10.6 SDK being used, and not change any settings it suggests need changing.

I assume it is a USB headset but you have not given its make or model number, so we can't help you search for a solution.

True, of course. But you could use the Audio Track Dropdown menu to Split Stereo to Mono, then use the L....R pan slider on each track to adjust their positions in the stereo field.

This is related to a security update. Someone found a way to execute code, hidden in an audio or video file. Since the average user will never suspect these files to carry malware, the update was badly needed. I doubt it. Why would iTunes and VLC still accept audio files by drag into the app? Gale
