Does the song sound tinny when you play it without recording it?

Have you looked at the "MaxxAudio® Master professional audio tuning" and "Audio Wizard Recording Mode" that comes with this machine?

Have you spoken to Asus about this? They make the computer.

You could complain to ASUS and see if they will fund a USB sound card that has stereo mix recording.

If your machine has an audio out, you can instead connect that to line-in of the USB sound card and record USB line-in.

It has to be a proper sound card with stereo line-in.

OK, so it's just a playback rate problem. What is set as the "playback device" in the device toolbar and what other options are there? Playback has 7 options: 4 of them refer to HDA Nvidia (vid card sound) which run at apparently correct speed, but don't result in sound coming through. 1 ...

try to download lame nothing happens, Audacity doesn't work. on my Apps page it shows Lame to be in my Apps. but underneath it reads, "Unavailable". I turned off my firewall but that did not work. Please turn your firewall back on. If you are looking in the modern Settings app > System > ...

Any Audacity projects you could open in 1.3.x versions of Audacity will open in 2.1.2.

Please tell us your version of Audacity (all three numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page). To be clear, LAME is required only for exporting MP3. If you go Edit > Preferences... > Libraries section and you see a number against "MP3 Library Version" then LAME is installed proper...
