Re: SOLVED: Recording on Linux ALSA
FWIW, I have never seen it work like that in Ubuntu on my computers. With no external USB devices connected, I see individual sliders for each input/output of the built-in sound card. Press F6 and check which device is selected. By default is should be PulseAudio on Ubuntu, and that should show jus...

Re: Consider a project of only unmodified tracks to be "clea
To me, if File > Import > Audio... left File > Save Project... greyed out, it gives the impression that Audacity has "opened" the file. I'm confused. Who suggested greying out "File > Save Project" and why? I don't see that suggested anywhere else in this topic. :? The suggestio...

Re: Consider a project of only unmodified tracks to be "clea
Would Steve or Gale be willing to commit an experimental (may be in a separate branch) Might this not be better in your own fork of Audacity, Ed? Then we can see the changes and it's easy to merge it into Audacity master. As it is now, we have to diff your files to look at the changes. "Advanc...

Re: Consider a project of only unmodified tracks to be "clea
We could also add an option here that Importing an audio file put a filesystem lock on it so that the inadvertent user could not delete a file on disk while it was open (in filesystem terms) in Audacity. I've thought about a lock on imported files myself. But we've had regular complaints on Windows...

Re: SOLVED: Recording on Linux ALSA
The command alsamixer with no additional parameters will open alsamixer with the default device selected, which on most modern Linux systems is PulseAudio. In this case there will be just one output (playback) slider, and one input (capture) slider - PulseAudio handles mixing separately from ALSA. ...

Regardless, it is a restriction that we should not have. Most applications can drag in their own native format.

Re: Chaining does not affect files
Can't find a suitable video on youtube on this subject I recommend you use our written documentation rather than YouTube videos. Some of those videos are plain wrong, and most of them don't tell you what version of Audacity they are using. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/chains_for_batch_process...

Re: Pitch changing problems
I am having a problem with audacity. I'm trying to match certain sounds to the correct pitch of certain notes in songs. I know i can highlight the song note, go to effects, and click "change pitch" to see what note it is, then press cancel. But when i change the sound to that note, it jus...

Re: Audacity opening up in every time I open a single file
Why would I want to save an Audacity project? Rather than the WAV files? You would want to save an Audacity project if you wanted to continue editing the WAV files in another session. "Editing" means doing things like cutting pieces out, or removing noise or making the file louder or soft...
