Re: Updating to 2.1.2 has erased old aup files
I think I've done something a bit stupid. I upgraded to 2.1.2 from 2.0.2 because I was getting crackling noise on my tracks. It is possible the update in itself won't help that problem, but reducing "Audio to buffer" in Recording Preferences will. See this FAQ: http://manual.audacityteam....

Re: Export audio newbie question
We tallied up "votes" about this recently. As Steve said, a simple option to turn off "Save Changes" is problematic, because novice users would lose work. I assume stavts76 would accept it if we provided an option to hide "Save changes?" if all the work had just been ex...

Not so, as far as I know.kozikowski wrote:Audacity doesn't speak MIDI, although I think you can get it to transfer MIDI commands now.
That you can actually do, but you can't hear it because there is no MIDI playback.kozikowski wrote:You can't cut a MIDI song.

Re: How to search for files
If you must have search you can find it in an obsolete 1.3.5 Beta version of Audacity from http://www.oldfoss.com/Audacity.html . But you may have lots of other problems and bugs in that version and we can't help you with it here. Really, it would be better to search in Windows Explorer then drag th...

Re: Record a stereo signal
I split your post to a new topic because I think it is fairer to the other user to do that. It can get very confusing to answer two people in the same topic, especially if it actually is an equipment problem. This FAQ shows you the settings change Steve suggests: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/f...

Re: Can I increase the volume of a wav file?
It is easiest for us to read your replies if you could use quote tags. You get one set of quote tags automatically if you press the QUOTE button to reply. In your case, restart Audacity after placing the "compress.ny" file in usr/share/audacity (assuming you are using a packaged version of...

Re: link to download old Noise Removal utility
I use Noise Removal for one thing: to remove background noise. This is usually very light background noise generated while recording in my acoustically-imperfect and non-soundproofed home-studio. In addressing this particular background noise, the old Noise Removal was very superior to the Noise Re...

Re: What should stereo recording look like
Sorry, I forgot that I updated the version of Audacity I am using a few weeks ago. I am running 2.1.0. Then you did not update from our site http://audacityteam.org/download/ otherwise you would have the current Audacity 2.1.2. The audacity.sourceforge.net site has not been our site for some time. ...

Re: link to download old Noise Removal utility
I agree: fascinating. For years,Noise Removal accomplished my goal perfectly, every time, hundreds of times. But the Noise Reduction tool is worthless to me. Are you actually using the current Audacity 2.1.2 from http://audacityteam.org/download/ ? In that version, Noise Reduction has a sensible &q...

Re: How to search for files
If you click in the "Look in" box at the top, you can navigate through a tree of the file structure on your computer.
Otherwise, Audacity does not have a search box in its "file open" dialogue. Do you want to "vote" for that suggestion?
