Re: Consider a project of only unmodified tracks to be "clea
I chose to differentiate between Normalize and Amplify because Normalize can be turned on in Preferences to run on every Audio Import. Back when I implemented this feature for my users there were significant code differences between Normalize and Amplify - that may have changed. I don't think the e...

Re: Consider a project of only unmodified tracks to be "clea
... "Save Changes?" will be the only advanced Warnings Preference. I would strongly recommend moving what is currently on the "Projects" pane into the "Advanced" section. And I'd consider moving "Directories" there too. If you are asking for a new "Advan...

Re: how to play back: mp3 export needed?
I am now saving 7 hours of streaming as an AIFF file. I hope there isn't a time restriction like there is on WAV. Audacity calls saving an audio file "exporting". AIFF has the same restriction as WAV, maximum 4 GB. If you don't need to play the files in iTunes you can try FLAC which is ha...

Re: Audacity Menu
If you are repeating your request I want to print an Audacity manual, a COMPLETE manual , I'm afraid that answer is still negative, unless you want to try saving the entire http://manual.audacityteam.org/ site as a PDF in Adobe Acrobat. The links in the image maps won't work, as far as I know. Gale

Re: Precise Control Points?
In other words, there isn't any mechanism to make very fine, quantitative adjustments ONLY the time position, or ONLY the amplitude position of a control point. And I can't type in (or use arrow keys to specify) a precise, absolute numeric value for either one (either time or amplitude). Those are ...

Re: Recording not starting?
USB mics do not record for months on end without cold boot of the computer. Windows Start Menu, Power button, hold SHIFT and click on "Shut down". If the problem still occurs after reboot, ensure "Audio to Buffer" in Audacity's Recording Preferences is set high enough. Default is...

Re: mono recording will only record from left channel ?
Audacity isn't yet able to treat the "Right" channel of a stereo interface as mono.
So record in stereo then use the Audio Track Dropdown Menu to Split Stereo to Mono, then use the [X] button top left of the upper track to close it.

Re: Recording Vinyl Into Audacity 'Skips'
Is there a ballpark on the lower end of audio buffer that you can recommend, rather than working up 10 milliseconds from zero for each LP side I rip? No. The Audacity buffer length is interdependent with the buffer of the device you are recording from, so it's best to work upwards from zero as sugg...

Re: Can't find an explanation for "grayouts" in manual
When you say you have updated drivers, have you been to the Dell site and checked there for 64-bit audio drivers meant for Windows 8.1 and your particular computer model? Why are you interfacing with WASAPI? It is less compatible than MME. It may fail when choosing 1 channel (mono) recording in Devi...

Re: headphone mic not working anymore
When you have selected the correct mic in Device Toolbar, turn up the input level up in Mixer Toolbar: Gale That slider seems to make no difference. What happens if you record with the Logitech mic chosen as recording device in Audacity's Device Toolbar, and the Mixer Toolbar input slider turned up...
