If you upgraded from XP to Windows 10 on the same machine, there may not be any Windows 10 audio drivers for your hardware. Check if out, but you could always buy an external USB sound card that supports Windows 10 and use that instead.

WASAPI (loopback) recording is digital if there is a digital stream inside the computer, like a YouTube video. So are you recording now with Windows WASAPI (loopback)? Using that method you "might" be able to still record even if you turn the speaker sound down to zero. Or put a plug in the speaker jack with nothing connected to it. But you can set the Audacity recording device to the mixer (USB). ...
