If you upgraded from XP to Windows 10 on the same machine, there may not be any Windows 10 audio drivers for your hardware. Check if out, but you could always buy an external USB sound card that supports Windows 10 and use that instead.

Re: Loopback and usb dac
WASAPI (loopback) recording is digital if there is a digital stream inside the computer, like a YouTube video. If the stream going into the DAC is external, like an S/PDIF source, I would expect the recorded sound to be coloured by the analogue characteristics of the device, but I have no experience...

Re: Record audio silently (only use PFL / headphones)
So are you recording now with Windows WASAPI (loopback)? Using that method you "might" be able to still record even if you turn the speaker sound down to zero. Or put a plug in the speaker jack with nothing connected to it. But you can set the Audacity recording device to the mixer (USB). ...

Re: Timer not working/ windows 7
I did click on the HELP box and it showed numerous failures to start various things and there was an error code 136 which I think is a fault in my registry. If you have not installed the LAME or FFmpeg libraries, this will be noted as failures to load in the log. Those messages are not relevant to ...

Re: Record 1 channel, make 2, stereo
Select a mono track by clicking just above MUTE. Duplicate the track with Command-D. Using the drop-down menu on the left > Make Stereo Track. Okay, I currently have two tracks. The upper is empty. Make the lower mono then delete the upper, duplicate with command-D. Use " Make Stereo Track&quo...

Re: No Data for Imported 880MB File [SOLVED]
Yes, I saw a track with a flat line in Audacity. It is unusual that a corrupt file would do that, rather than refuse to open or show a short section of just noise. I did not use the Help feature as I opted for this forum instead. My apologies. You did right to ask here... and often you may find an ...

Or, the problem could be not the mic but the USB cable, if it has a detachable cable.Roy Schreibe wrote:Thanks for the advice. I rummaged around to find another mic to see if my rather new mic was the problem. It is.

Re: Timer not working/ windows 7
It's a known issue on a very few machines in Audacity 2.1.2, assuming that is the version you are using. See the pink panel at the top of the page for how to find your Audacity version number. It may or may not help if you leave the screen showing Audacity throughout the recording and turn off any s...

Re: Hum occurs when I hit RECORD
remember if you unplug a USB sound device, it will vanish from Audacity even if you plug it in again. Restart Audacity or Transport > Rescan... That isn't usually the case on Windows, though I see it happening on Mac. PortAudio look likely to implement hotplug support at long last, so we will have ...
