Re: MIxer toolbar greyed out in xp
Have you updated the Realtek drivers? It's important you do, in case that's the problem. You don't have to use the mixer toolbar selector - choose your source e.g. microphone in the Windows control panel, make the recording device in Audacity to be "SoundMapper" then it should just work. M...

Re: File->Exit and File->Close do the same thing
1.3.5 when released will in fact say "Closing last window quits Audacity". I can't agree that it should be unchecked by default. When users uncheck it by accident or curiosity, they then usually write in to complain that "Audacity has a bug. You do File > Close and nothing happens&quo...

Re: Inaccurate Length on a .mp3
Assuming you mean "stereo" not "standard" I can't replicate it on Windows with the Win version of iTunes. Are you using the released Audacity 1.3.3 or a version compiled from source code? What Project Rate are you exporting at? Please try again at 44100 Hz Project Rate (set at bo...

Re: File->Exit and File->Close do the same thing
Uncheck "Quit Audacity on closing last window" on the Interface tab of Preferences then File > Close will open a new empty project instead of quitting the program.

Re: Can no longer export to MP3
Yanko asked: "For someone who does not record at very high quality, what should I use as a default sample rate and depth?" It entirely depends what your objectives are and what your end product is. All recording in Audacity is at minimum 16 bit. If you want to a lot of editing on the recor...

Re: software requirement document
Hi Konstadina When you asked your question on the developers' mailing list if anyone had written a "software requirement document" before, I answered that we did not know exactly what you meant, but that the operating system requirements for running Audacity on Windows are already noted on...

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
As I said your comments are welcome, and I have commented further in the post you mention that Koz replied to. Generally I agree about being "user friendly" to "single use purpose novices" but some power users and other developers don't agree at all, and really don't want the pro...

Foxylady: "I expect that someone somewhere has a list of all characters which might cause problems in filenames, which could be used to check filenames at the beginning of the "Export Multiple" process, and put up a warning (preferably with a "don't warn me about this again"...

Re: Correction of clipping?
Yes the author does recommend reducing the amplitude by 10 or 15 dB before running the effect so that the reconstructed audio has somewhere upwards it can go.

Thanks for your further messages. Re the illegal characters in the labels (I presume you are naming the files there), this is documented on this Wiki page dealing with splitting recordings into separate tracks: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Splitting_recordings_into_separate_tracks Th...
