Guidance on using Forum
Jan has posed some questions: By the way, if a newbie is enterring the forum, is there any guidline? For me it starts "Français" I think the rationale is that multilingual content is at the top, otherwise non-English speakers think the Forum is English only. Is this a problem for English u...

Re: Minor interface bugs (Trim and Split New)
I've removed "* Ensure grey out Edit > Split New when no audio is selected, and grey out Edit > Split when no audio tracks are open." from the "Release Checklist not aiming, as it's been done (when "select-all-on-none" is off). this bug has been in Audacity a long time witho...

Re: High Frequency Tones
It seems to be the same in Audacity 1.3.4 (32 bit Linux) and 1.3.5 (Win XP). They will accept custom sample rates of 100kHz but not 100001Hz Hi Steve When you say they won't accept 100001 Hz, what happens? I can generate or record at that rate, export as WAV then import back in and it shows as 1000...

Re: Failure to start after previous success
Thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions and it worked! I'm not enough of a computer engineer to know why but it seems that the config file got in the way of the launch. Is that a common problem ? I also note that the recoded file has to be exported to save as a wave file. Otherwise it sa...

Re: High Frequency Tones
Audacity 1.2.6 is limited to 100 000 Hz Project Rate and 20 000 Hz tone generation so I assume you using a 1.3.x version? I'm not sure but 1.3.5 does not seem to have any hardcoded sample rate limit, but there will be some limit as to what your sound device will accept as it will be having to resamp...

Re: Minor interface bugs (Trim and Split New)
I'll add the Split New problem to the Wiki Release Checklist - this bug has been in Audacity a long time without anyone noticing, so thanks. Incidentally most of the "problems" Jan noted are because he chooses "Select-all-on-none" in preferences. What happens with Trim with this ...

Re: Does Audacity still re-encode mp3 files when saving them
but now when I want to upload that file to my blog or something like that, in order to reduce the download size, I will be forced to re-encode again to .mp3, thus decreasing the overall file quality. Koz is right. If you want to edit MP3s directly without re-encoding you are limited to cut, copy, p...

Re: Can't Record Voice
I can't create a new file by speaking into the mic that's plugged into Tube MP. The mic is dead and nothing appears on the track. I've checked all the connections and they are solid. My settings are: What U Hear : Microphone; Edit/Preferences: Audio ID: Sound Blaster and mono, Quality: 44100 Hz and...

Please see this FAQ which lists Audacity's format support. Currently, Audacity does not support MIDI.
