Re: Recorded audio starts before zero
@ GaleAndrews - Could I ask for a little clarification here. In Audacity 1.2.6, latency correction is calculated rather than just using a default value? Is this calculated value stored anywhere (in the registry?) or is it calculated each time Audacity starts? As I understand it, the value is calcul...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
I've never heard of this problem either. It may be useful to know what kind of Mac this is. [EDIT] Looks like it is an Intel Mac with OS X 10.5.3. This problem is quite well known and documented: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mac_Bugs#Loss_of_sound_after_running_Audacity The crux of ...

Re: Ubuntu users directed to 1.3.4 beta
The point about our download page is that we don't supply pre-compiled binaries for Linux, so can only point to package search pages and leave the user to obtain what version they choose. Many Linux users are "savvy" enough to cope fine with 1.3.x, but one point about the Beta series (note...

Re: Volume very low when recording over microphone
Is it a condenser or more expensive dynamic microphone? Then its output needs amplifying by connecting it to a pre-amplifier or mixer. If it's a cheap dynamic mic, look for a "volume boost" or "AGC" in the recording volume controls in the Windows Control Panel.

Re: Recorded audio starts before zero
I'm not sure why we're discussing 1.2.6 Preferences in the context of latency correction as there is nothing in those preferences that controls it, only in 1.3.5 Preferences. 1.2.6 relies on the automatic latency correction in PortAudio v18 (our audio input/output library). For most people this work...

Re: Menus greyed out after cancelling effect
Thanks for letting us know. The sorting of effects is experimental and we may well change that current ordering. The point of this is that eventually we'll provide a way for the user to edit the plug-in categories and sort them as they wish.

Re: Blind user asks for help with tracks' editing
Hi Maurimol I've e-mailed you privately to say David won't be updating the JAWS guide until there is another public Beta (possibly September). Concerning your suggestion, am I missing the point or do you just want to make Spacebar do what SHIFT + A does now? If so, you can simply go to the Keyboard ...

re FAQ:Real-time VST effects (Windows, needs extra hardware)
Thanks, Andy Reference your FAQ on Real-time VST ... I think this will frustrate a lot of people who won't be able to get pairs of inputs/outputs. "Virtual audio cables" are a software solution, for example this proprietary software: http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html Other altern...

Re: Menus greyed out after cancelling effect
For those who have had problems with this, this alpha build of 1.3.6 should fix it (requires OS X 10.4): http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.php?dir=mac%2Faudacity-nightly-2008.06.23-03.15%2F&download=audacity-macosx-1.3.6a2.dmg Feedback posted to this thread would be gratefully received, espe...

Thanks, Steve. Or of course sighted users can e-mail each other directly by clicking the envelope icon underneath the author's name on the right of any post. Maurimol, thanks for your help, I have e-mailed your Manual Wiki account information to you.
