Re: Can neither record nor playback: Audacity 1.3.5 beta

Glad you were able to fix it. We'll bear the documentation point in mind at a general level rather than specific to tapes and records, possibly adding something here at least: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshooting_Recordings One of these things that is obvious to check, except...

Re: Clipfix (see waveform pic) - plugins available?

In case anyone went through the same 30min experience in finding clipfix.ny; here is the link http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacitydl.html Thanks. Just to remind, clipfix is now included in Audacity source code and will be included in Audacity (including stable) from version 1.3.6 Beta onwards. Gale

Re: Can neither record nor playback: Audacity 1.3.5 beta

Portmixer is as far as I know part of Portaudio. The version of Portaudio should be at least v.19. Beyond that, I've no idea. Enabling Portmixer when Audacity is built supplies the Mixer Toolbar. I honestly don't know the significance of the "unable to open" error but you should be able t...

Re: Help files

I think the link in the Help menu is just a dummy (left over from when the help files were included).Audacity 1.4 is due out fairly soon - perhaps they will put a working help link in that. The latest development version now has a link to a page explaining how to view help in the Audacity help wind...

Re: I can't play back what I have recorded

I've had a very similar problem (not being able to playback what I have recorded), but without getting any error message. I'm using OpenSuSE 11.0... The answer appears to be - for the above configuration only I must stress - to stop PulseAudio from running... I will probably discover that some othe...

Re: Recording time limits

The 4 GB file size limit only applies to FAT 32 file systems. On NTFS systems the theoretical limit is 16 exabytes (an exabyte being 1000^6 bytes), but as implemented the limit is 16 Terabytes (a terabyte being 1000^4 bytes). There is a 4 GB RAM addressing limit on Windows. There is a file length li...

Re: Reproducible abort of 1.3.4 under Kubuntu 8.04

Hi Ibu This problem was also in Release Builds of Mac 1.3.5 (now fixed) but if you compile Audacity from CVS HEAD: http://audacityteam.org/community/developers#cvs I think you will find the problem isn't there. Audacity does not provide packaged version for Linux, instead this is done by the various...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac

Is the default setting in Audacity 44100 Hz and should it be maintained? Yes - I said the defaults are 44100 Hz 32 bit float which are the recommended settings. I don't see a reset to default option either. Is there one? http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Audacity_Preferences#Resetting_Pr...

Re: New Audacity Functionality: Real-time editing

I don't think that it is resistance to new ideas so much as trying to keep some sort of focus on the project objectives. Absolutely, and trying to make contributors' ideas of sufficiently general applicability that they could be considered for mainstream Audacity is another consideration. Hence my ...

Re: New Audacity Functionality: Real-time editing

Thanks, Steve. Just to add to that, you could name the labels without pausing, but would need one up arrow or enter after the last label if you wanted to use spacebar to stop recording. I don't know for sure about Widgets supporting an application setting a hotkey that works in all programs. I suspe...
