I suspect we ought to make you get your clipping with the Amplify effect. I'll see if I can get it fixed.

Re: No audio when recording under Gnome in Fedora 9

I'm not on Linux but there is a suggestion on our Linux issues page: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Linux_Issues#Error_Initializing_or_Opening_Sound_Device that you could set DMix: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?title=Dmix to be default ALSA device, then set ESD to use the ALSA defa...

Re: VOX Recording

Is it possible to set up Audacity for voice activated (VOX) recording? If you accept that it's an alpha build so potentially less stable than the Beta, it's here in 1.3.6a5: http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacity-latest-cvs-ansi.zip Turn it on at Transport > Sound Activated Recording. we expect it ...

Re: Show Clipping: Set # of consecutive samples

I moved this from the 1.2 Forum because "Show Clipping" is not in 1.2. Show clipping displays every sample that reaches +/- 0.0 and is not configurable. Analyze > Find Clipping by default produces a label where there is a run of three consecutive clipped samples, which is the same threshol...

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually

Any ideas about how to make the Welcome Screen more likely to be read gratefully considered... Make it quirky and amusing. I like the way it used to have "Audacious" rather than just a boring old "OK" button. Or something else to grab attention.... OK will think about it. We rev...

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually

Hi Steve Thanks for doing a little mock up of our new First Run dialog.... my feeling is still that it could easily be ignored (so would not help unless "copy in" was default anyway); it's not relevant to everyone, and it's too removed from the actual import time - that's when people are t...

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually

How about a pop up window on first use/installation that says something like: [x] Copy uncompressed audio data on import (safer) [ ] Read uncompressed import data without copying (faster on large files) Do not change this setting unless you have read the Audacity File Management information (link) ...

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually

Are we getting rid of the "I saved my project and then cleaned up. Where did my show go?" problem? Related and also very popular. Most people won't need crash recovery tools in 1.4 if Automated Crash Recovery works. If it doesn't then using those tools is more complex because of the rando...

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually

OK, some egg on my face, I was playing with this idea before I wrote, trying to make it more useful and jumped too many steps..... You're right, generating silence writes no .au files, just instances of <silentblockfile> to the .aup file. What I had already found out was that generating a tone does ...
