Re: Voice Distorion
i'm new to this so sorry if this is a stupid question when equalizing did you mean the lower frequencies on the left high on the right or were you suggesting making the Eq that way to try to lower the distorion? As you can see on the horizontal scale, the low frequencies with low Hz values are on t...

Re: Audacity won't save my wav's at 48000Hz
It's a problem that was discovered in Linux builds after 1.3.5 was released. What happens is that the project rate (bottom left of the screen) is set incorrectly to 8000 Hz on launch or opening new project, irrespective of the displayed rate. Any recorded or exported tracks or generated tones will h...

Re: Select All Does Not Automatically Extend When Changing S
OK there is a similar but not identical problem with Effect > Repeat, so it looks like we should see if we can fix it. It actually went wrong in 1.3.4 and I suspect the "select all if none selected" preference that came in then might be to do with it.

Re: Voice Distorion
You have first to extract the audio from the video to a WAV file using Super or similar, then import the WAV into Audacity. If you can only hear bits here and there is it worth bothering? If yes, and if it's distortion due to being too loud, add this plug-in to your Audacity plug-ins folder and rest...

Re: New To This site
I am assuming you mean compress the file size, not compress the dynamics, which you'd do with Effect > Compressor. You want to File > Export as MP3; before doing so, follow these instructions to add the LAME MP3 encoder to your computer, which Audacity uses to do the MP3 compression. Gale

Re: unable to open target file for writing
Are you using Export Multiple? If so I guess you are putting system-prohibited characters in the file names (in the labels or in the Track Dropdown menu). On Windows systems these characters are not allowed in file names or folder names: / : * ? " < > | See: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.p...

Re: RECORDING CONFERENCES ON AUDACITY
I have the latest 2008 version of audacity but was unable to find the area with the remaining "recording time" on the bottom left of the screen that you alluded to. I did notice the screen with the wave forms of the recordings can accommodate up to 288 hours when I go all the way to the e...

Re: Joining multiple MP3 files to create one large file
When you import the files they all start at time zero. If you pressed play, they would all play together at the same time. Quick Mix does the same thing, mixing the selected tracks together into one track that remains at the same point on the timeline. Unfortunately Audacity lacks any automatic way ...

Re: 100% cpu usage
Hi George And can you go Audacity > Preferences: Import/Export and set the "When importing audio files" button to "make a copy..", then try some of these AIFFs that froze up. If they import OK, then that may tell us there is some issue between those files and the new type of load...

Re: Intel Macbook frozen recording
I really would suggest you try 1.3.5 as Koz suggested (if you aren't already). And if you are using 1.2, you are using the 1.2.5 Intel version? Most of the time 1.3's automatic crash recovery should save what you recorded, but the main point is that we know 1.2.x (which uses an older version of our ...
