Their site seems to suggest now going through the motherboard manufacturer fror driver updates, rather than them offering direct downloads. This is probably a bit late (or obvious) but you would have to unmute the mic in the playback view in ALSAmixer, And have ALSA:default as Playback Device in Audio I/O tab of Preferences. If that does not work, choose "Software Playthrough" in the same tab, but it does have latency.

You've obviously tried Effect > Amplify? Effect > Low Pass Filter, which might kill the exaggerated sibilants you might get with whispering? Effect > Change Tempo to slow it down a bit but keep the same pitch?
