Re: Can I check if a file has already been normalized?

Effect > Amplify... shows you the peak amplitude. Look in the first box ("Amplification dB") and take the opposite sign of what it says.

So if it says 1 dB, then the peak of the audio is -1 dB.

Re: Recording with a Roland TD30k SE

Dell Studio 1555 In other words it only has a mic input: https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-studio-1555-15-6-core-2-duo-t6500-4-gb-ram-320-gb-hdd/specs/ . So if you aim to record the audio outputs of the drum kit you want a USB interface with a stereo line in such as http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wi...

Re: Local Quick Help and Manual

How do I download the local Quick Help and Manual. If you obtained the EXE installer of Audacity 2.1.2 from http://www.audacityteam.org/download/ , you already have the Manual and Quick Help on your computer. Open them from the "Help" menu top right of Audacity. If you obtained the ZIP of...

Re: Sound crackles terribly

Do you think this would do the trick? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlet2i2SG2 If you want to spend that much and need the headphones, that should be OK. A USB mic would be much cheaper. Thanks, that works! Not so obvious, maybe a candidate for future improvement/change? We do have a Manual that might have told you http://manual.audacityteam.org/ . To search it you can bookmark this https://www.google.co.uk/search?&q=toolbars+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fmanual.audacityteam.org - just c...

Re: Format Error in MP3 players

I open Chrome, then go a website w/ some music files, click on download, it saves it to my hard drive, then I drag and drop it into the drive of my player. I guess it is that transfer that does somthing to the file... You could try moving the downloaded file from the bad Dell to the good Dell, then...

Re: Audacity & iPad

So to import this file directly into Audacity, I suggest you use File > Import > Audio..., and in the "File type" list, choose "QuickTime" files. I tested. Audacity does not recognize a QT file under .aif nor .aifc and refuses the importation. But, having changed the file with Q...

And that is another example of a recording for legal purposes that we won't touch.

If you are concerned, go to law enforcement and give them the undoctored recording.
