Re: Recording at 24bit appears to be 16 bits padded to 24bit
The "DirectSound" choice for SoundBlaster that Thunderstick is using in the Audacity Audio I/O Preferences might be the key here, as the other choice (MME) only supports 16-bit recording (even with 24-bit hardware). Steve has told me he thinks CoolEdit uses DirectSound, but 1.3.7 is the fi...

Re: Export multiple with Unicode labels
Obviously a Unicode build of Audacity should be used to give Unicode support (that is, one advertised for Win 2000/XP/Vista), but yes I can confirm Audacity 1.3.7 (the current Beta) on Windows seems unable to either import or export files that contain Unicode characters, or files from/to paths that ...

Re: File|Close shuts down software instead of project
in this beta version, the whole program Exits, instead of closing the current project. That is the default action and is strongly recommended. While Audacity remains open, all temporary files and memory usage from previous projects remain and can cause your computer to run out of disk space or RAM ...

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
Yes, but piano2_32 (or whatever I called it) was created from a 32-bit project and should be able to open up everywhere as 32-bit floating. Most players and analysis assume it's 16-bit. Koz If you exported without changing the export filter to "other uncompressed files", hitting "Opt...

Re: Error 4880 when burning CDs in iTunes
In iTunes 8 this has been removed from Preferences. Set the burning speed when you click the Burn Disc button.Mariajames wrote:Try slowing down the "preferred speed" of the burning and see if that helps .......... iTunes.... edit..... preferences.... burning.

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
The Default is QuickTime IMA 4:1. I'm just going on dozens of reports in the past, and half a dozen at least that confirmed the answer - when exporting AIFF from WireTap you had to turn off "Compression" in its preferences. Audacity had the playback alternating from one channel to the oth...

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
It might be interesting to split this up a bit. I don't trust Audacity exports for a second. That's how I created the sound file that reads in three different bit depths depending on where you look and the humidity outside. I posted that file and I still haven't heard back. Leland is probably lying...

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
I can not import long aiff file with Audacity 1.3.7. This problem had not been in Audacity 1.3.6. Actually, I had downgraded my Audacity to version 1.3.6 to avoid this problem. I can NOT import "aiff" audio file of more than (approximately) 1 hour. ( I can read the same aiff file with Aud...

Re: Test = ignore
From the time the forum came back up with the new settings, it's been on a three to five second response time except one night where I think the whole server went down for a couple of hours. So this is perfectly workable. Koz OK - the cache clearance and patch may help, but don't cure the underlyin...

Recent Forum Problems
<<<Just a test>>> Have you tried restarting your computer and trashing your audacity preferences file? Koz It needed more than that. The recent Forum failure was due to the cache getting too large (now cleared it out) and also the large size of the banning list which was just timing out (we've now ...
