1.3.12 Beta released
Thanks to those who helped us test the 1.3.12 Beta release candidates. 1.3.12 Beta has now been released: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac It seems at present that the Beta series will be ongoing for some time yet before we can get to a new 2.0 major release. If you don't regularly follow t...

Re: FFmpeg library not found
Please launch Audacity so that it tries to load the FFmpeg libraries, and post the output of Help > Show Log in this thread. You do need a version of FFmpeg 0.5 or later, but the latest FFmpeg from git has an API change so that match_ext() has been replaced with av_match_ext(). If the log shows &quo...

Re: how to find max & min samples
I've been searching the manual for how to locate max and min samples in a project track. Audacity doesn't give you direct access to that data (it's a feature request that it should give you a text export of it). Wavosaur will give you a text read out of the amplitude of each sample. As for Audacity...

Re: Implementing Reverse effect (playing audio backwards)
Hello everyone. I'm trying to wrap my head around the implementation of Audacity's Reverse effect. Does anyone know if there's a restriction on which file types can use this effect? I've only been able to play WAV files backwards, but I'd like to use a compressed format. More I've downloaded the so...

Re: Import using "Files of type: FFmpeg-compatible files" bu
I guess there's not much hope that it's going to make the cut for the final 1.3.12 release? It may still make it - it is currently being worked on. Keep your fingers crossed. The problem with multiple file open or import switching back to the native importer will be fixed in 1.3.12. Recent Files an...

Re: my client can't hear my files
OK, so presumably this MP3 from Joady's 32-bit Audacity project imported OK for you. At the moment I have no evidence of the theory, so I'm an agnostic.kozikowski wrote: All I did was decode the MP3 to WAV, resample it, and produce a new MP3. Poof everybody was happy -- and hired.

Re: my client can't hear my files
Koz, I really don't understand what the issue is here. I think you have suggested that if you export MP3 from 32-bit projects on (unknown) versions of Audacity on (unknown) platforms, (unknown) other programs may not open them. Now you are suggesting these MP3s are openable, but play as silence? It ...

Re: Extreme distortion after exporting to Ogg
Ooooooh, I see.The source material is already recorded and split into multiple tracks, I'm simply re-joining the tracks into one .ogg, no recording involved on this machine...but that information is very useful for if I ever need to actively record something. Note that View > Show Clipping only pai...

Re: Label- Slows down and stops program
Dinosaur, there has been another report of this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/audacity/+bug/529337 that suggests EXPERIMENTAL_LYRICS_WINDOW (View > Karaoke) is to blame - it interacts with the first label track even if you don't have the Karaoke window open. So if adding an empty first ...
