Re: MP3 distortion

OK well on Windows the WAV has the same spectrum with notches as the MP3, and the MP3 export respects that general profile. Exporting the MP3 (128 kbps) after importing the WAV into a 16-bit project seems to give a very slightly more muffled result than exporting from a 32-bit project. The big diffe...

Re: MP3 distortion

Yes I can hear it is not right, especially at the last phrase, but I have had demo microphone recordings sent to me by users that they thought sounded "perfect" that distort far more than your sample does. MP3 export at 128 kbps should not take significant notches out until 16 KHz. 5 KHz i...

Re: MP3 distortion

Jim also wrote to [email protected] and said he was running Audacity 1.3.12 in OSX 10.6x (and 1.3.11 in an XP laptop). So I have moved this to the Beta Mac forum. My ears are now middle-aged but the MP3 file doesn't sound *that* bad to me. Increasing the MP3 bit rate (Options button when you export) might h...

Re: FFmpeg library not found

I've made a patch so you can use ffmpeg >= 0.5.1 Thanks. Obviously, others please note that patch will prevent Audacity loading FFmpeg that doesn't use av_match.ext (e.g. it will break an SVN build of FFmpeg from Autumn 2009). Presumably SVN from earlier than 0.5.1 Release date (March 2nd 2010) mig...

Re: Sound Card Reviews

Thanks for your reviews, bgravato. I see fairly regular criticisms on Windows that the output of Art USB devices is "too hot". Inexperienced users may want to consider the level of the input into the ART and the level of the system input. See this ART FAQ for Windows 7 (and Vista). Gale

So would that currently be be the recommended version of FFMpeg for Linux?
Either that, or 0.5 from Spring 2009. I've updated the Manual to reflect this.

Re: FFmpeg library not found

OK. You'll need to install an earlier version of FFmpeg until we can change Audacity so that it recognises av_match_ext() if a very recent FFmpeg version is installed.

Re: Closing Audacity with click on x

... I would also like it better if Audacity would behave more window-ish in this matter and combined all open projects in tabs or internal windows into one main window. I'll note that as a "Feature Request". I'm surprised more people don't suggest that, but I think tabs in applications we...

Re: Closing Audacity with click on x

...That's not good... Don't be such a pessimist Koz :D Edit menu > Preferences > Interface tab. Select (tick) the option "Closing last window quits Audacity". Just to note, having that option checked (ticked) is default, so Balanced must have changed it. However checking "Closing las...

1.3.12 Beta release source tarballs available

Thanks to those who helped us test the 1.3.12 Beta release candidates. 1.3.12 Beta has now been released: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_source It seems at present that the Beta series will be ongoing for some time yet before we can get to a new 2.0 major release. If you don't regularly follo...
