If it's a USB turntable, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable and make sure it is tight at both ends. Also consider changing the cable.

Then reboot your computer.

Make sure Transport > Sound Activated Recording is not selected (not ticked).

Even with that adaptor, a TRRS input is a mic meant for computer mics (without the adaptor, for headset mics). It is totally unsuitable for stereo recording from a mixer or iPad.

Probably you are recording from the wrong recording device. See Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows . Note that you will not have the Windows WASAPI (loopback) option mentioned in that link because you are using a very old version of Audacity. Are you using 2.0.3 because that is the on...
