Re: Default to PAUSE as I attempt to record
While having enabled "Sound Activated Recording" would be a likely explanation in Audacity Beta (this means that both Record and Pause will appear depressed, and Pause will lift when there is a signal above the threshold), it cannot be the explanation if you see the same problem in 1.2 bec...

Re: Multi-channel Recording in Audacity
There's also an overlap with Recommended Sound Devices I'm aware of that - and there's an overlap with the Sound Card Reviews topic on the forum, but I think that multi-channel sound cards should be kept on a separate page (in both the wiki and the forum). Users will usually be looking for advice o...

Re: altering amplitude of a section of a track
When I do the final step am I lowering the rest of the track down in volume to more equal the quite bit, or am I increasing the volume of the quiet bit? I was assuming this was your only track, and that you have Audacity's Tracks Preferences set to the default "Select all audio in project, if ...

Re: altering amplitude of a section of a track
Say, how does one use Audacity to change the amplitude of a 30 selection of a track? For some reason, a section of a recording is very low in volume and I want to bring it up to the level of the rest of the track. Select and delete the section that's too low. Click Effect > Amplify and note the val...

Re: HowTo: Remove dither noise from silence
Another angle on this is that for non-silence we would usually want the dither noise to be present because it reduces the quantization distortion that would otherwise be created when downsampling from 32 bit to 16 bit. For audio above the noise threshold the Noise Gate leaves the dither noise alone...

Re: Lame 3.98.4 Incompatible with Audacity 1.3.8?
When will next release of Audacity be out? There will be at least one more Beta (1.3.13) before the code is deemed suitable to become a 2.0 "stable" release to replace 1.2.5/6. Why is that 3.98.4 not significant compared to jump from 3.98.2 to 3.98.3? I thought you were going to tell me t...

Re: compiler warnings in libnyquist
I suggest you add a P5 to Bugzilla. I think we should focus resources on P2s rather than compiler warnings. I brought this here to the forum so that the Devs could stay focused on P2s. It seems the folks who know Nyquist are more likely to see it here anyway. I suspect this has been addressed in so...

Re: MP3 Year tag
Rather than me guessing what to do at both ends of this, can you create a short MP3 that you without question post a bogus year tag like 1942? I'll shop it around players and see which ones are correct. OK, I attached an MP3 created in Audacity 1.3.13 on Windows 7 with the following tags: Artist Na...

Re: Lame 3.98.4 Incompatible with Audacity 1.3.8?
Why there is still 3.98.2 compiled by Audacity team, where's 3.98.4? Because later version is better. If you are on Windows, you can get a 3.98.3 installer here . Unfortunately, we don't have anyone on Mac at present who is able to build LAME for us. If anyone would like to do it, the scripts are h...

Re: Audacity 1.3 Beta
I want to use the Audacity software with a compact recording system. Do you know which Interface it is compatible with? I don't really know what you have in mind by a "compact recording system" other than perhaps the form factor of the device. Try reading Sound Card Reviews and other topi...
