Re: Wav 5.1 output mapping
There are two different 4.0 configurations (Surround and Quad) which have different channel allocations, so you need to know what your card supports. If it really only supports 2:1 then the only other channel it will understand is the LF subwoofer. 2:1 and both 4.0 configurations all have non-contig...

Re: side-by-side configuration incorrect
when I try to run after installation, I have this popup: side-by-side configuration incorrect :?: :?: This problem may occur if you are on Vista or 7 and install Audacity 1.2.6. In most cases it is fixable by right-clicking over audacity.exe in Windows Explorer, then click Properties, then the &quo...

Re: Data folder size
I'll look at changing the quality & sampling rate to ensure the _data folders are not quite so big. Take care with reducing the sample rate if you are recording or generating audio because it will significantly affect the quality (remove high frequencies). Reducing the sample format won't signi...

Re: Wav 5.1 output mapping
That will give you a 6 channel file with channels 3 and 4 silent. If you're exporting as 5:1 Surround WAV or AC3 I think that should give you audio in front left, front right, rear left and rear right, with front center and low frequency (subwoofer) silent. Re: ipod does not recognise track numbers exported from 1.3.
Can you give an example of a numbered track name from 1.2 that works with your iPod and one from 1.3.12 that doesn't? You don't have to use numbers in the file names in 1.3.12; just put some text in the labels and select the "Using Label/Track Name" radio button when you export multiple. I...

Re: Data folder size
I've been successfully using Audacity for a number of years both at home and with students at school. In the last few weeks all projects we create generate huge data folders - usually between 100 & 200 MB. This happens when editing just one MP3 track that could have been trimmed to under 30 sec...

Re: Truncate Silence unstable
I've seen one other similar report from a Mac user (1.3.12, OS X 10.6.4) recently. He said that the files were 90 minute long M4A files. Do you get the crash when the files are more than a specific length? Is your "flatten spectrum" the Equalization effect? He said that Audacity > Preferen...

Re: File size = ~ play time?
I will be traveling and will take a number of unknown mediation files for use on the plane and terminal. They are all MP3 files. They all fall within the 5-->5.6kb range. Is there some rule of rough thumb for how many minutes such files would run? You might mean 5 MB. The file size of MP3s depends ...
Re: echos
I finally did figure out how to connect my tape recorder and now I can at least hear the sound coming through my computer. When I try to record the tape there is an echo of the voice like two people singing but one is a few seconds behind the first voice. Click the Transport Menu and uncheck "...

Re: Channel order when exporting to AC3 surround
Whatever may or may not have happened, that ordering is correct for 5:1.DrLex wrote:It seems that the ordering of the AC3 channels has changed between Audacity 1.3.7 and 1.3.8![]()
The new ordering is:
1. L front
2. R front
3. Center
4. LFE
5. L Surround
6. R Surround
